What’s Happening at your Local Library these Holidays?
Article by Melissa Riley
End of term is upon us and the summer holidays are almost here. The iCentre space might not be available during the holidays, but there are lots of opportunities to engage with your local library over the break.
If you’re after some space to relax with friends, Chermside library has some comfortable armchairs and pod seats where you can unwind and enjoy the air-conditioning! Plus, the in-house café has lots of delicious treats. There are hundreds of books and magazines just waiting to be read, check out the Book of the Week posts for some recommendations.

Regular face-to-face events are a little less common currently, but there are plenty of online events for you to connect with including:
Young adult book club,
Christmas craft workshop with BrisStyle,
Anime and manga club, and
Author talks (catch Craig Silvey, author of Jasper Jones, on 24th of November!)

The State Library of Queensland is another stunning spot, with a spectacular view of the Brisbane River and a short walk from South Bank. There are plenty of spots to curl up and read a book – the Red Box between levels 2 and 3 is particularly lovely on a sunny day.

Don’t forget that you can still get your favourite eBooks, audiobooks, and films from home through the iCentre OPAC.
Enjoy the festive season, bring on 2021!
