Reading for Diversity
We live in a diverse world so the iCentre collection has many books that reflect this. We choose many of these as our Book of the Week recommendations.
School libraries aim to contain the right book for the right reader. Sometimes the reader wants to see themselves in the book. Sometimes they want to read about an experience that is very different from their own.
Some of the issues students can find in a diverse collection include race, disability, LGBTQIA+, characters from different cultural and religious backgrounds, different family structures, and medical issues.
Diversity allows the reader to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes and develop empathy so make your next read one that reflects the diversity of the world we live in.
