This week is Queensland School Library Week and the theme is The Heart of Learning.
This theme invites us to think about what libraries mean to us and the contribution libraries make to our learning. Queensland School Library Week encourages us to celebrate the ways your library continues to:
· Teach multiple literacies,
· Encourage a lifelong love or learning and reading
· Connect students with digital literacy skills,
· Resource teachers to deliver curriculum, and
· Foster a reading culture at your school that connects students to the wider world. (QSL, 2022).
This year, the secondary competition asks you to answer the question: ‘School Libraries – The Heart of Learning – What does that look like for you?’ You can take a photo or produce an artwork to illustrate your ideas. Entries close on Friday 25 February, so make sure you are in it to win it!
Show your love for your school library this week and join in the fun! There are plenty of resources available here to help you celebrate.
Library Lovers’ Day is Monday the 14th of February, and the theme is, ‘Show the love.’ It’s a day to remember that our libraries are a place where we can get lost in an idea we are following, find an adventure we are seeking in a book, discover more about an issue we feel passionate about or get help from someone about something we want to know.’ (ALIA, 2022). The iCentre are celebrating this theme by inviting students to have a date with a book.
There are books of all different genres to choose from so there will surely be something for everyone! The Australian Library and Information Association have plenty of fun resources here, for students to engage with this years’ theme.
