This week, Australia celebrates Naidoc Week for 2020. NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’. This committee was once responsible for organising national activities during NAIDOC Week and its acronym has since become the name of the week itself.
The theme for this year is Always Was, Always Will Be – which recognises and celebrates that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the ancient history of this country – a history that dates back thousands of generations.
On Friday, our staff and students are invited to dress in floral clothes and/or accessories to highlight the contribution of Torres Strait Islander peoples to our nation.
