International Women’s Day Literary Breakfast 2021 is SOLD OUT!
It is with great pleasure that Principal, Samantha Jensen, invites students and friends of Mt Alvernia College, together with their mother or significant women in their lives to attend a literary breakfast in celebration of International Women’s Day.
You’re Invited!
This year, the breakfast will take place on the college’s lovely rooftop garden. Guests at the breakfast will have the opportunity to meet Principal, Samantha Jensen, and enjoy some wonderful breakfast treats followed by a keynote address. This year we are very excited that our guest speaker is Suzy Wilson who is the founder of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) and the owner of Riverbend Books in Bulimba, Brisbane.

In 2010, Suzy was awarded the Dromkeen Award for her efforts in ‘being a catalyst in changing children’s lives through literature’. She was honoured as the recipient of the prestigious 2015 Johnno Award by Queensland Writers Centre. She was awarded the 2018 Lloyd O’Neil Award at the ABIAs, which recognises outstanding service to the Australian Book Industry by an individual, and was named a Life Member of the Australian Booksellers Association at the 2018 ABA Conference for her twenty plus years of experience, dedication and passion in the bookselling industry.
Suzy will speak in conversation with Helen Stower about the history and aims of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF), her work with the foundation, and the importance of literacy in the lives of all young people. As the owner of Riverbend Books and an avid reader herself, Suzy might also give a few of her top book recommendations for both our students and the grownups in their life.
Tickets to this event can be purchased from the link below on the College website:
The breakfast will be an event in our Read Like a Girl program.
Read Like a Girl is a community partnership for the literacy advancement of girls. Riverbend Books are a community partner in this project. This project encapsulates a calendar of reading events aimed at instilling a foundation and love of reading in the college community and more broadly among girls.
Riverbend Books will have a pop-up bookstall at the breakfast where guests can purchase from a range of newly published or popular books for both young adult and grown-up readers.
