Book of the Week

Date Published: 16/02/2021

Future Girl by Own Voices author Asyphixia is an imaginative coming of age story about a young Deaf girl who is finding her voice. Set against the backdrop of a challenging near future in inner-city Melbourne, the story is presented as the private art journal of sixteen-year-old Piper. Illustrations cover every page and the story gives an insight for hearing readers into the challenges experienced by the Deaf community and is a powerful voice for Deaf readers.

This imaginative and immersive read is highly recommended for readers aged 13 – 16 years and would be suitable for a class novel study as well for art journaling in English and Visual Art classes.  Extensive Teachers’ Notes are available on the publisher’s website HERE
