What is a Refugee? by Elise Gravel is a picture book that explores the refugee experience in simple terms for younger readers.  As such, it is an excellent introduction for readers of all ages to gain an understanding of the current humanitarian crisis the global community is facing around refugees and asylum seekers. It would be a perfect start for students who are embarking on a unit of work on this complex topic. Suggestions for further books on the topic are included in the graphic book review below.
