Vikki Wakefield’s This is How We Change the Ending is a gritty, raw, coming of age story for YA readers which explores confronting topics about the lives of disadvantaged contemporary teens in a realistic and uplifting way. By walking a mile in the main character’s shoes, readers can gain an understanding of the tough life of those teens who live with entrenched poverty and disadvantage and who don’t see a future or way out of it.
This is a novel that would benefit all YA (15+ yrs) students to read and is sure to be one of this year’s award winners. With Teachers’ Notes available, it would also make a great book club and class novel study.
