Classic Book of the Week

Date Published: 05/10/2021

Sienna Anning, who worked with us here in the iCentre, recommended some classic reads that she thinks both students and teachers will enjoy.  A classic is a book which, with each rereading, offers as much of a sense of discovery as the first reading, and one of the best classics is Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.  This novel has stood the test of time and is as popular today with readers as it was when it was written.

You can follow up with the many movie versions of this memorable story like the one below.

The Movie

In 2019, a new film version of Little Women was released to rave reviews. Directed by Greta Gerwig, the film brings to life the iconic story of the March family and their lives and struggles during the American Civil War. Originally published in two parts in 1868 and 1869, the novel is a coming of age story of the four March sisters and is loosely based on the author’s own life with her three sisters. This movie takes the 150-year-old text and adapts it and makes it relevant for our times.

We highly recommend both the classic novel and the movie for all of our readers, those who are young, and those who are young at heart!
